Social emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing self awareness, self control, and interpersonal skills that are important for school, work and life success. Our Feelings Check In puzzle is a great way to help kids recognize and express their feelings and emotions. Not everyone is able to verbally express their feelings and emotions. This puzzle allows children to look at pictures and connect them to how they are feeling. It will also help them make the connection between their feelings and their behavior. The ability to learn personal awareness is known to help children recognize and manage stress, as well as persevere in difficult situations allowing them to take steps towards their mental well-being.

Ideas for Play
1. Go through the discs and have the child mimic the picture/emotion on the discs. Ask questions such as: What does being afraid look like? What does silly look like?
2. Have the child choose the disc/emotion they are currently feeling and place it in the “I feel” section.
3. Do this daily at the beginning and end of the day or even throughout the day. This will get the child used to paying attention to their emotional state and needs as well as sharing their emotional state with you.
4. Take this further and have them develop strategies they can use to help cope with their emotions
