Ideas for play
1. Introduce the value of money by having the child recognize different coins and their values.
2. Then build up to have the child sort different coins into their appropriate slot on the board.
3. Later, have the child count the total value of all coins in all slots on the board.
4. Once the child has reached mastery in these skills, write a Dollar Value and have them build up to that value by placing coins from the upper slots to the bottom slot.
5. Let the child decide what denominations of coins to use and teach them that they can use different denominations to get to the same value. Counting in groups (5s, 10s, 25s etc) is also good practice for your mental math strategies.
